Introduction to Ghale Ghaun

Ghale Gaun is a beautiful village in the Annapurna region, the top five best trekking destinations in the world. The villages are suited at Lamjung district, in north-central Nepal. The village is less than an hour drive from Besisahar, an entry and exit point of many famous treks including Annapurna Circuit Trek and Manaslu Trek. It rests at the foot of Lamjung Himal at an altitude of 2100m.

This small village homes the Gurungs community who are known for their hospitality. They are helpful and very friendly. The cultural practices of Ghale Gaun are known to be inherited from the Tibetans. You can also witness some unique traditional lifestyle of the people.

Further, the village is blessed with most prodigious landscapes – a green hill hat stand against snowy white-peaks. You can get the sight of some of the world’s highest peaks as Mount Annapurna (8091m), Annapurna II (7939m), Lamjung Himal, Bouddha Himal, Himalchuli and also Mount Machhapuchhare (6693m) during Ghale Gaun homestay trip.

Getting to Ghale Gaun

Local Bus

Ghale Gaun is about an hour drive from Besisahar, Lamjung. The best and the cheapest way to get to Ghale Gaun is to drive to Besishar in a local bus or Hiace and then hire a jeep to Ghalu Ghaun. The local bus to Besisahar cost around $5 and the 7 seated jeep to Ghalu Ghaun charges $25 to $35.

Private Jeep

You can hire a jeep from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Ghale Gaun. If you have a group of 6 to 7 people this is the best way to get to the Ghale Gaun. Hiring a jeep cost around $65 to $95.

Hiking

Since the path is easy and less steep, some travelers prefer to hike to Ghale Gaun. The pleasant and scenic hike to the elevation of 2100m takes about 3 to 5 hours.

Accommodation and Food in Ghale Gaun

There are several homestays over Ghale Gaun where you can get basic accommodation. They will provide you a room with 2 beds, blanket, mattress, and pillow. Also, you can get delicious local food made out of locally harvested products. You can also try their local drink.

They will provide you night stay along with food at the price as low as $15 to $20.

After 6 – 7 hours of the drive to Besisahar you can further hike to enter the Village of Ghanapokhara. The settlement here nestles amidst mountains, streams, rivers and also some waterfalls. Then you can further trek ends to Begnastal, a lake close to Pokhara Valley. But only a few numbers of people do this trek.

Best time for Ghale Gaun Trek is September to November and March to April.
