Ghorepani, located under Dhaulagiri zone is an integral part of the Annapurna range. This picturesque hamlet nestled quietly within the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) comprises numerous beautiful facilities to trekkers. Ghorepani lies at the altitude of 2,874 m above sea level.

In earlier dates, Ghorepani used to a stopping point for traders to fed their horses and also used to supply drinking water. There’s where the name originates (Ghore meaning horse and Pani meaning water in Nepali).

The best part of the trip is a panorama view of Annapurna and Macchapuchre range. Poonhill is best known for the majestic sunrise along with a panorama view.

Ghorepani is famous for oranges and rhododendrons- found along the trails of the foothills. You can also see oak, birch, orchid, pine, and Juniper. During the spring season, the fauna just gets prodigious. There is also fauna like Pink-Browed Rosefinch, White Browed Fulvetta, and Red Billed Blue Magpie along with troops of langur monkeys, Pika and Himalayan Tahr during the trip. I remember encountering with “Chauri” a Himalayan Cattle. Over a place called Deurali, they also serve raw blood of Chauri.

Best time for Ghorepani Poonhill Ghandruk trek

Autumn in Nepal, mid-September to November is said to be the most appropriate season for the trek. But spring, March to May when lush of red and pink Rhododendron leads all the way to the top would be the best month of the trek. Monsoon- June to August fits for a keen botanist but doesn’t go well with travelers.

For this route, you either fly or ride to Pokhara and take a bus/ jip to Nayapul. A public vehicle drives you only to Nayapul and you can take a jip to Birethanti or even up to Ulleri. Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul takes around 2 to 3 hours. After around two and half hour travel in jip, you land to Ulleri. You encounter a number of the guest house in Ulleri to crash for a night. Another day is ascending to Ghorepani (Altitude 2800m). It’s a 5 to 6 hours walk that wouldn’t ripe your strength if you go steady.
