Base Camp to Mount Everest in Map
The trip begins with a stirring 35 minutes mountain flight to Lukla from Kathmandu & as soon as you touch down at that altitude, the rest is history. The flight to Lukla cost you around $180. As your plane lands in a steep mountain runway your actual trek beings with an adrenaline rush in your body. For the first day, you are supposed to hike to Dudh Kosi Valley on a well-marked trail and then stay overnight in Phakding. The hike is only 3/4 hours.
Another day, you set for Namche village which is a gateway to Khumbu. This day, you walk to Monjo village and past Sagarmatha National Park. The park is listed in world heritage site since 1979. It accommodates great fauna and flora diversity including rhododendron-juniper-pines-firs and birch tree lines. Himalayan Thar, Musk Deer and Nepal national bird Danphe / Impheyan pheasant, snow leopard light up your stress. But your eyes glitter only when you get the first glimpse of Mt.Everest from this national park. Now, you walk past the Namche bajar-a meeting place for the Hindu traders from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La. It’s best to stay overnight in Namche itself.
The other day for Mount Everest in Map, you can hike up to Tengboche or enjoy a day in Namche itself. You can visit Khunde Hospital and a school set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or one hour walk up to the Everest View Hotel early morning for the sunset view of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Everest. In the evening, grab a bottle of beer and just watch as the yaks move up and down.
Another day is a gradual trail with few ups and downs overlooking magnificent view of the great Himalaya to the pheasant, musk deer, a herd of Himalayan Thar that you encounter in your trail. As you cross Kyangjuma, Sanasa and Phunki Tenga finally climbing to Tengboche, it’s great to crash a night there. It’s only around 5 hours of walk, so if you have some strength left, you can even get up to Pangboche village. Another day is a climb to Pheriche and you can continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse and Tawache on the left. You walk past Duglha and eventually crash in one among the cluster of houses at Lobuche.
The other day you climb through meadows and moraine stones steps to reach Gorakshep. From where you can either make a beeline for Everest base camp or climb to Kala Patthar. From Everest base Camp, you do not see Mount Everest.
From Kala Patthar you can have a panoramic view of Mt. Everest along with other mountain peaks like Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lingtren, Mt. Khumbetse, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku and other many more huge peaks. This portion of the hike would be arduous with almost 7 to 8 hours of walk. If you choose to go EBC, be back to Gorakshep for night stay. And the rest is all about ascending back to Namce and then Lukla.
So, this would be the end of your trip. A trek is about enjoying the journey and enjoying the destination equally. This two weeks would be the most prodigious and historic days of your life.
